How I Combine My Love for Motivational Speaking with My Passion for Running Marathons Around the World

As a motivational speaker, I have the incredible opportunity to travel the world, sharing my journey and experiences with people who are looking for inspiration to overcome their own challenges. But there’s one thing I always make sure to do while I’m in a new city or country: find a nearby marathon to run. It’s a tradition of mine, a way to combine my two passions—speaking and running—and to challenge myself in a way that keeps me grounded and energized.

So far, I’ve run 10 full marathons and countless half-marathons. Each race is an adventure in its own right, but some of them have truly stood out to me—not only because of the physical challenge but also because of the unforgettable scenery and the incredible people I’ve met along the way.

The Marathon in Paradise: Honolulu, Hawaii

One of my favorite marathons was in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Honolulu Marathon isn’t just a race; it’s an experience. The stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, the tropical landscape, and the warm Hawaiian breeze make every mile feel like an adventure. As you run through the city and along the coastline, you’re greeted by the friendly locals, who cheer you on with genuine enthusiasm. There’s something special about being in a place as beautiful as Honolulu—surrounded by natural beauty and positive energy—that makes it more than just a physical challenge. It’s a reminder of why I run in the first place: to push myself, to enjoy the process, and to soak in every moment.

The race is known for its laid-back atmosphere, but don’t be fooled—it’s still a serious marathon. The heat and humidity can make it tough, but the views keep you going, mile after mile. Whether it’s watching the sun rise over Diamond Head or the feeling of accomplishment as you cross the finish line, the Honolulu Marathon is one I’ll always remember.

The Stunning St. George Marathon, Utah

Another marathon that left a lasting impression was the St. George Marathon in Utah. This race is held in a place that’s completely different from the tropical paradise of Honolulu. Instead, it takes place in the rugged desert landscape, where the red rock formations and breathtaking mountain views are enough to take your breath away. The St. George Marathon is known for its challenging course—starting high in the mountains and descending into the city of St. George—but it’s also known for its beauty and energy.

The people of St. George are incredibly welcoming, and the marathon feels like a community celebration. There’s something about the desert air, the vibrant colors of the canyon, and the determination of everyone around you that makes this race one of my all-time favorites. As I ran through the course, I felt a deep sense of connection to the place and the people—there’s nothing quite like running through such a majestic landscape while surrounded by supportive and inspiring individuals.

Running to Connect with Others

For me, running marathons is more than just a personal challenge—it’s an opportunity to connect with the people I meet along the way. Whether it’s fellow runners, spectators, or locals, every race is a chance to hear new stories, learn from different cultures, and share my own experiences in a way that makes a positive impact. When I’m on the starting line, I don’t just see a group of competitors—I see a group of people who are all striving for the same thing: to push past their limits and achieve something incredible.

The marathons I’ve run around the world have become a metaphor for life—full of ups and downs, unexpected turns, and challenges that require persistence and determination. Each race reminds me of why I keep pushing forward in my own life, and why I’m so passionate about sharing my story with others. Just as I cross the finish line after every race, I want to help others cross the finish lines in their own lives—whether it’s in their personal growth, their businesses, or their health journeys.

A Global Adventure, One Marathon at a Time

While I’ve run many marathons in Canada and the U.S., I’m always looking for new races in different corners of the world. The beauty of being a speaker is that it gives me the flexibility to travel and share my story with new audiences, and the joy of running marathons is that it helps me stay connected to myself, my goals, and my passion for life. Whether I’m running in a place that’s as exotic as Hawaii or as rugged as Utah, I know I’m going to be inspired by the people, the places, and the experiences that each marathon brings.

Running marathons has taught me more than I ever expected about perseverance, resilience, and the power of community. I can’t wait to keep running races around the world—and I hope to see you at the starting line someday!
